Hello everyone,
I'm just getting in under the wire with this card. It is a Mother's Day card for my mother-in-law - technically my ex mother-in-law - but she is still my Mom. She was born in Holland. When I saw the Timeless Tulips stamp set, I immediately knew that I had to make a card for her.
I used white card stock cut at 5 1/2" X 8 1/2", folded in half
- white card stock for the front of the card 3 7/8" X 5 1/4"
- scrap of white card stock for the tag
- Pear Pizzazz 6 X 6 DSP 4 1/8" X 5 1/4"
I first stamped the inside of the card to make sure that I got it right before adhering layers to the front of the card.
I used the large tulip stamp, the large leaf stamp and the straight stem. The stem and leaf were stamped using Pear Pizzazz ink and the tulip and sentiment were stamped using Real Red ink. I had a strip of the Pear Pizzazz DSP left over from the front mat. I adhered it at the bottom and it sort of kind of looks like a planter or maybe the grass - lol. Nonetheless it coordinates with the front of the card. At this point I also adhered the mat to the front of the card.
I then began to stamp the bunch of tulips for the front of the card. I first stamped 3 large tulips on to sticky notes making sure that there was some "stick" on the images. I then fussy cut them out. In card making some people find fussy cutting relaxing. I am not one of them! Oh well, you have to do what you have to do. TIP: Usually, when you fussy cut an image, you leave a small border around it like a die or punch does. When you are making a mask, you do not leave a border.
I first stamped the front middle tulip. I then put one of the sticky note "masks" over it so that you could just see the edge of the already stamped tulip. I do this because when you stamp the next image over the mask it doesn't leave a white line. You can see that I got a white spot as I didn't quite line it up correctly (between the middle and right front tulips). I have to remember that it is handmade and I am sure that no one will say, "Oh that's terrible. Look at the white line." I am sure that nobody will notice it but me - lol! I then re-positioned the mask and stamped the left front tulip. I then put masks over the front three tulips and stamped the back tulips. I kept the masks on to stamp the stems from the back tulips. I took off the masks to stamp the stems for the front tulips. With photopolymer stamps, you can see where you are stamping and that makes it sooo much easier to stamp the images exactly where you want them. I also stamped three leaves.
For the sentiments I used the Timeless Tulips stamp set. I love the sentiments included with this set. There is everything that you need except Happy Father's Day and Happy Anniversary -- a great set to own! For the front tag I stamped the sentiment on a scrap piece of white and punched it out using the Everyday Label Punch. I trimmed off the top and bottom as I did not want the tag that big. I then took the Label Me Fancy Punch and punch out slits in each end. I inserted the ribbon and went underneath the label and came up through the other end. Measure how much you need to just have a bit to go around to the back so that you can tape it there. I taped one end and then before I stuck it down on the other back I first used a glue dot to secure the ribbon to the back of the tag to keep the ribbon in place and then two more glue dots so that the label wouldn't move around. I then placed the label down and secured the ribbon to the back.
For the final step, I adhered the flower panel to the front. I added two pearls to the label and a heart off to the side. I added the heart there to hide some ink. You know what they say - a mistake is a perfect reason for an embellishment!
So Mom, Happy Mother's Day! To my Mom, who has been in heaven for about 11 years now, Happy Mother's Day to you as well. I love you and I will always miss you. XO
Have a great weekend,
Mary
