March 2020
Good morning
I hope that this finds you all healthy. I've never seen anything like this in my lifetime and I hope that we don't see it again. Maybe you're making cards or finishing up some Paper Pumpkin kits or maybe you are doing spring cleaning (my craft room desperately needs it!) or catching up on the shows on t.v. Whatever you are doing, keep your distance and wash your hands. I'm sure that you have all heard that a million times by now :) Try not to just sit around and watch the news all of the time because that is not good for your mental health and mental health is health as well.
On to the card. I really wanted to play with the Pressed Petals Specialty Washi Tape. It is part of the Pressed Petals Suite in the annual cataloge. The petals come off individually so you can make whatever size of flower you wish. For my flower I punched out a 1" circle and attached 7 petals to that. I used my silicone mat so that the overhanging petals didn't stick to anything. As I did not want my petals to stick to the card, I patted my embossing buddy over the overhanging part. I then put 5 more petals down for the "inside" of the flower. I took the petal and covered the part that I did not want to stick with my fingers and patted the embossing buddy on the rest of the petal. This is important as you want the middle to stick but not the petals to each other. The paper that I used was the Peaceful Poppies DSP and the flowers had black centers so I put a large black rhinestone from my stash in the middle to match.
For the card, I used Blackberry Bliss card stock cut at 11" X 4 1/4" and folded it in half. For the front I cut a piece of the DSP (mindful that It was going the right way - the flowers facing up) to 5 1/2" X 4 1/4". I used the "back" of another piece of coordinating DSP from the same DSP and cut that to 5 1/2" X 4 1/4" and I did the same thing with a white piece of card stock.
Adhere the floral paper to the front of the card making sure that all of the edges line up. If your piece is a wee bit larger you can turn the card over and cut away the excess with your scissors. Then take your white piece and stamp you sentiment in the bottom left corner.
On the white card stock in a landscape position on the top make a small pencil mark at 3/4" and 1 1/8.
Rotate the paper to the other landscape position and mark the card at 3". Take the DSP and the white paper together and line up on your paper trimmer the 3/4" mark and the 3" mark in the well of the trimmer and cut. On the leftover pieces (which should have the sentiment in the bottom corner) line up the 1 1/8" mark and the corner of the paper and cut. You don't need the middle piece. I hope that that makes sense. If it doesn't take a scrap and mark the lines and it will give you a clear picture.
Adhere the two pieces together making a 1/16" border or less of the coordinating DSP . Keep your paper lined up at the sides and top and bottom as best as possible because otherwise it will show. Adhere these pieces to the card front and attach the flower at the top of the cut pieces.
You can use any paper you want and maybe instead of the back of the DSP you might want to use colour card stock. You could also use a die cut at the top of the recessed opening. If you wanted to you could put the two attached pieces of paper on dimensionals. You could also make your own patterned paper by stamping flowers onto a piece of card stock. The possibilities are endless!
I looked at other cards but I liked these measurements the most as they show off a lot of the floral paper.
On the inside of the card, I used a 4" X 5 1/4" piece of white card stock. I stamped my sentiment in Blackberry Bliss ink and adhered it. I used the same colour of ink on the front of the card. I used the Sending You Thoughts stamp set which is free with a $60 during Sale-A-Bration.
Play with different stamp sets, paper and accessories and see what you can come up with!
