May 2020
I can't believe that it May! These days one goes into another and half of the time I don't know what day of the week it is. They all seem the same.
I made a card using the Painted Poppies stamp set.
Thankfully I don't need a sympathy card but I don't have any made if I need one quickly. It is good to have a couple of different types of finished cards on hand in case you need one in a hurry.
The card base for this card is Whisper White cut at 5 1/2" X 4 1/4" and folded in half.
I used Poppy Parade card stock for the mat --- 5 1/4" X 4". This leaves an 1/8" border.
The white card stock that I stamped on is 5 3/16" X 3 7/8". This leaves a 1/16" border.
I used the stamp from the set that I call the field of poppies to stamp the image in black ink.
I measured up from the bottom around 1 1/4" and drew a light pencil live across so that the poppies would be straight. Using my Stamparatus (what did I do before it?!!), I stamped the whole image with the tallest flowers in the middle. I then filled in the sides. I then die cut a circle ( approx. 1 5/8") in the middle. Using the die cut I coloured in 3 of the flowers using the Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends marker.
I used the white crinkled seam binding ribbon for the card ribbon and bow. I used the Stampin' Blends marker to "dye" this to Poppy Parade. I went over the front once and also the back. Remember: When you do this make sure that you have some scrap card stock underneath as the blends bleed through. This goes for card stock as well. I then stamped the sentiment.
Next I adhered the red card stock, tied and secured the ribbon with glue dots and then adhered the stamped card stock. I raised the die cut circle using dimensionals.
I then thought I need to do the inside. After 4 tries I finally got it! Has that ever happened to you?
So I stamped the poppy which I was going to colour red and then I thought - silly that is going to show through the back of the card. I always tell you that but I wasn't thinking! So I then adhered a poppy card stock cut at 5 1/4" X 4" and I realized that you could see the poppy stems that I originally stamped. I thought okay I'll just line it up when I do the white card stock. Well that didn't happen but I thought it's a handmade card - it's okay. The white card layer measures 5"X 3 3/4". ( A friend who swears by Gina K. ink gave me a black ink pad so I thought that I would try it. After trying the front of the card stock and the back it was kind of blotchy even when I used my Stamparatus. If you use this ink than God bless you. I'm giving mine back to my friend. ) So after those experiences, I cut another piece and used my regular ink, used by blends to colour the poppy flower and it was finally done!
I was frustrated but I didn't give up and I'm glad that I didn't.
Take care,
Mary
Beautiful!!
