Good morning,
The last week or so here has been very mild and it got me thinking of flowers. Today however as I write this, it is snowing and -10 with the wind chill - lol. I'm still thinking of flowers though!!!
I thought how cool would it be to make a flowerpot with flowers. I looked on You tube and the card seemed to be popular anywhere from 9 - 14 years ago! Let's bring it back!!!
You will need a piece of card stock that is 8 1/2" X 3 1/2". Score this at 3 1/2" and 7". Fold at 3 1/2" to make the pot and then fold back the 1 1/2" piece to make the lip of the pot. I used my corner rounder punch on the bottom corners of the lip.
You can choose any colour that you wish for the pot (keeping in mind your flower colours). You can also add texture to the pot with an embossing folder. I think that the Basket Weave 3D folder would work with a brown colour.
I wanted mine to be very bright and so I choose Mango Melody card stock.
Fold back the lip. Place the top of the pot in the middle of the paper trimmer cutting track and then slide the bottom over 1/2". You will be cutting through two pieces of card stock. Double check that is lined up and then cut. Do this to both sides. This gives the pot shape.
I stamped the daisy from the Daisy Lane stamp set that matches the Medium Daisy Punch. I stamped 4 in Mango Melody, 3 in Daffodil Delight and 3 in So Saffron. Adhere 2 daisies together using glue dots. You can make any combinations that you would like. I also used two dies to cut out some foliage. For the middle of the daisies I coloured them lightly with a light brown pencil crayon. When you do it lightly it gives some definition while at the same time allowing the tiny circles that make up the middle of the stamped daisy to show through.
Cut a piece of Mango Medley that is 4 3/4" long by 2 1/4 " wide and a piece of white card stock that is 4 1/2" X 2". Adhere these together. This will be your card insert and also the piece that you adhere your flowers to.
I adhered the lip down so that it would stay flat. I adhered the pot together using a glue dot on either side at the top. Tip: These have to be at the side as you need space to slide the insert in and out.
Put the insert straight into the card and then place it on top of a regular envelope about 3/8" up from the 5.5" side. Tip: By doing this you will know how much room you have for your flowers so that they will still fit inside of your envelope. Put a little pencil mark where the insert meets your pot. Take it out, stamp your sentiment, erase the pencil mark and reinsert it.
Place your flowers and greenery where you would like them to be. Try not to leave any white background showing through. Make sure that you don't let any greenery come down below the flowers as this will show when you pull out the insert. Adhere the flowers. You can adhere some flat to the insert and put the rest on dimensionals. I put my middle bottom flower on a dimensional as it keeps the insert straight.
I used the sentiments from the Timeless Tulips stamp set. As you can see I made a Birthday card but this would also be great for a Get Well card, Happy Mother's Day card, Happy Easter card etc. etc.!!
You can decorate the pot if you want to with ribbon or I used strips of the Subtles 6" X 6" DSP in Pear Pizzazz.
I thought that this picture was neat because it looked like the light coming in a window where the pot was.
Have fun creating,
Mary
