September 2019
Hello!
Did you think that I had fallen off the face of the earth? LOL
This time I really am back. Are you enjoying the fall weather? I've noticed that some of the trees are starting to turn, however yesterday and today we are back to summer temperatures without the humidity. I love it!
The 2019 Winter Catalogue has been open to customers since Sept. 4th. Have you bought anything yet?
One of my favourite stamp sets is Playful Penguins found on page 23. Today I will be using this stamp set while also showing an easel card.
First you take a piece of paper that is 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 and score it at 2 1/8 and 4 1/4. You fold the scores to make a tent. I used black for this project.
I then cut two pieces of smoky slake card stock at 5 3/8 X 4 1/8.
I then cut another piece of black at 2 X 2 5/8 and
gray at 2 1/2 X 1 7/8. These are the pieces for the popped up penguin. Attach. On one of the pieces of gray stamp the two penguins with their arms outstretched in black. Try to get their arm 2 to 3/8 from the side and a wee bit more than 1/4" from the bottom. Make sure that they have their beaks facing towards each other! Next use white ink on the snow/land to ground them. The pigment ink takes longer to dry so don't touch it right away or you will smudge it. If you want to speed up the process you can use a heat gun.
Then take the small piece of grey and repeat the process with the penguin with his arms flat to his body. Position him to the left with his beak about 1/8" away from the side and his wing about 1/4" away. This leaves room to add the scarf. I used a scarf from the Let It Snow Embellishment Kit found on page 19. It is with the LET IT SNOW Suite. When attaching the scarf, I first tried glue dots but ended up using snail. I'm sure that you could use glue as well. Adhere to the small black piece.
If you want you can certainly use the scarf the comes with the penguin stamp set. You would stamp it in your desired colour and fussy cut it out and attach it. You could then move the penguin more to the middle of the small piece by probably being able to reduce the width as well, thus being able to center him more.
Attach the stamped piece to the individual black piece and the to scored piece of the card that is facing toward the front. This means that you are only putting adhesive on the bottom half of the stamped piece. Then attach the other grey piece to the card base. also attach the penguin to the card front using black dimensionals.
For the sentiment I used the smallest of the long rectangle stitched dies to cut a white piece and then the second to cut out a backing piece for it in black. Stamp your sentiment and attach the two pieces. Attach to the card base with black dimensionals. First play with your card to see how straight you want it to stand. I put mine about 1/2" from the bottom as I wanted my card to be on an angle forward.
For it to be an easel card, you need the dimensionals to hold the card front up.
You probably noticed that i put black dimensionals
in bold. This is because they are SO GREAT!!
In the picture you do not see white
dimensionals staring out at you. I used to colour
my white ones with a black sharpie so they
wouldn't stand out - lol. These are new to
Stampin' Up and are found on page 55.
My finished card!!!
TIP: You can make any size of easel card simply by cutting the size of card you want, scoring it in half and the top piece in half again. You then cut out a piece of card stock to the size of what
would have been your card front. This works for almost any shape card!
Have a great day,
Mary
